I, like others, have my tuba covered on my homeowners policy. The difference is that mine is insured for full replacement value (about $17k). In the words of my insurance agent, the tuba is covered "as long as it is somewhere on the planet" - not just limited to my house, nonpaying gigs, etc. And the cost? A whopping $57/year. Quite a deal, eh? The only thing that is not covered is normal wear & tear (including dings). It's comforting to know that if someone plows into my car on the way to a gig or rehearsal, that I'm covered.
