Angela,
Sound production isn't just a physical thing it also has very much to do with listening. Listening to many players, and hearing what sound you want to achieve. It's as simple as Song and Wind. Wind being the fuel for SONG, but most importantly having a concept of SONG. Not to say that you haven't been listening to players on the instrument, but if you haven't, it's really a good idea to start listening. Hearing many different musicians play their instruments with a beautiful sound has made all the difference for me. Listen to ARNOLD JACOBS!!!! Eugene Porkorny, Daniel Perantoni, Velvet Brown, ETC. There are thousands of tuba players with absolutely gorgeous sound but their personal sense of sound is different from everyone elses. Learn what sound you like and imitate it.
