I just bought the new 181-6VGB, Miraphone F. It plays great, records great and like all tubas it requires alternate fingerings. My experiance with the old Mirafone 181 I owned Rodger Bobo's for a while,) was not as positive. The way he played it you'd think it was the greastest horn around, listen to BOTUBA. That's why Rodger, and Tommy went to the B&S. The low register was better and you could lay into it when needed. But the new 181, well no comparison. It's a tribute to Tommy & Rodger how great they are to make the old Miraphone "F" sound like it did. MY 2 cents. FYI, Norm Pearson was the 1st one on in LA to own and play the B&S.
Take care, Van Houten
