It's unfair for you to assume that just because you might not excercise the utmost care and respect for the horns you try out at various tuba stores, the rest of the tuba-playing community does the same.
Trying out horns is all a part of being a musician... before making an $8,000 purchase, one would be an idiot not to try out all of his/her options... the means trying out the different horns, from the various retailers. It ain't like buyin' a car! ;)
