If a kid has a HB21 or a Haynes flute or a Leblanc Opus clarinet, all I do is remind them that the school is not responsible for any loss or damage. Also, for auditions it doesn't matter for TMEA or ATSSB, all auditions are blind and I doubt any judge could tell if an audition was on a MW2145 or a Yamaha 105. For contest and sightreading, I doubt the judges will say "nice Powell flute" or "your tuba section has 2 BBb's, a CC, and an F".
