Mouthpiece Question

Hi everyone,

Many of you may remember me saying that I was going to buy the Buescher/Dillon cut CC tuba. Well, after some financial difficulties, I was unable to buy that. I went to Balitmore Brass this weekend and tried out a bunch of CC tubas and I have come down to two: Eli Newberger's York factory CC and a Conn 56J.

Here is my dilemma. The Conn is pretty much an all around horn the way I was playing it. It worked well for solos, excerpts, and other pieces of music. The York had a huge, dark, orchestral sound with my Dillon M1CB as the mouthpiece, but it was lacking a certain fluidity and clarity in runs in solo work. Can this be changed with a mouthpiece? If so, any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Sincerely,

Andy Smith
