Nick,

I went on a mission 13 years ago after my first year of college. I was nervous about how long it would take to get my chops back and how far behind I would be from my peers. Going on a mission will put you two years behind, but it shouldn't take too long to get your face back.

When i first got home, I pulled out my horn, unstuck the valves and tried to play an open note. I quickly put the horn away and didn't look at it again for a week! It was terrible. Honestly though, it only took me a couple of months to get back to where I left off, and I was completely free of several nasty habits that I had developed in high school.

My advise is to give all your strength to your service for two years and try not to think about the tuba.

Good luck,
Paul Evans
