My local music store has an old Wurlitzer E-flat tuba (3 valves, non-compensating) hanging on the wall. I've been thinking about an E-flat for a long time, but the obstacle has always been cost. For the kind of music I play (jazz, blues, bluegrass, etc.), an E-flat would be great, and I wouldn't need a symphony-grade horn -- but I'm wondering what y'all would say about this instrument.
It appears to be in pretty good shape -- valves don't seem leaky, and overall condition is good. I blew a few notes on the thing, and it feels pretty playable.
The pricetag says $550, they say they'll go down to $500, no lower.
What kind of money is this horn worth, and does anyone have comments, pro/con, about Wurlitzer horns?
Thanks,
Urbie
