I didn't mean to come off as being really sarcastic, but just wanted to point out that the horn size has little to do with one's body size. I've got a 983 and think it's a great little horn.

But the "I want a PT-6 'cause it's big" that was coming through just hit me wrong. Sure, we like to have a big horn in the stable if we can swing it, the bigger the better. I'd love to have one of the big Martins, but heaven knows if I'd ever play it much.

What would impress me (and probably others), is someone saying "I've played the following horns and X and Y give me almost what I'm looking for, but not quite. Does anyone have any suggestions?"

I think others have said that a good 4/4 or 5/4 will cover 99.44/100's of the occasions where a student needs to play tuba, when he's not playing sousaphone. I concur.
