Still, give your parents a break on the "pricier" tubas. The Miraphone* is a great choice for 99.99% of guys your age (possibly you?), and they are SUPER-resellable.
*There sure are PLENTY of tubas at twice the price that stink like dead dogs. (Steve in Indiana can tell you how to compensate for the "German" sound that you'll get out of it [joke].)
