My mother played flute in the Albany (NY) Symphony a few months before I was born. Guess you can say the first orchestra I was part of was the Albany Symphony flute section!
A major factor for me playing the tuba was that I wanted to play something my mother didn't know anything about. It worked for years until I discovered both the flute and tuba required a lot of air.
OK, not married to a flute player but . . .
