yeah tim, gives you a pretty good idea of the long-term effects
of OUR inflation, don't it? Actually, simple thinking about exchange rates
is crazier than trying to "figure it all out."
Back then gold was going for 400+ a troy ounce, how much is it now?
I paid 3200 for a 4-valve 184 w/flight bag new in 1982 or '83,
put the dvs links on (300 for the Mirafone parts "ouch"),
babied it while using it daily and then sold it for 3200 three years ago
after a fellow pestered me for 6 months to sell it to him. I included
the flight bag which had come with the horn, and a 186 case which hadn't.
Then Brasswind had to get rid of some overstock 186's and blew them out for 3k
(don't know if they were clams or gems, they just had a lot in stock for too long
and they had to sell.) So after my friend chased me for 6 months to buy the ONLY horn I have or ever will buy new, for HIS price, he sees BW's price and calls me a rip-off.
That's economics. Heck a year ago I could have pulled a retirement account and even after tax penalties for early withdrawl (10% + 20% withholding) pocketed 35 grand. That same account is barely 20g's in the bank right now. Thats economics, and buddy it ain't simple. Oh well. Mirafones are a GREAT deal, If I ever decided to get rid of all the old, used hardware I have around and get ONE horn new, it'd be a 188. Period. So, go encourage your buddys to buy one before school starts and forget about what a "rip" they are,'cause it just t'ain't so.
