I spent yesterday afternoon with Brian Frederiksen at the Windsong Compound in faroff Gurney, Illinois. He whisked me away to a neighboring town where he attempted to poison me with a local delicacy known as the Maxwell Street Polish (That refers to the nationality, not the cleaner). This is an exotic type of Chicago hot dog. This is not your grandma's hot dog. It is a huge wiener. It is deep fried, and comes with french fries off a real potato. (What a concept). It is fragrantly spicy, and very greasy. Brian gives the establishent a reduction from 5 stars to 4 for allowing some of the grease to come off on the bag.
Brian, with Dallas and Dorothy continue to sift through stuff from the Jacobs household, teaching and research materials, recordings, and other things. The Windsong site will be an even more interesting place to visit just after labor Day.
