That is another thing that bothers me. Why do so many tuba players think that string players are better musicians? That is simply not the case with today's tubists. Tuba players are better musically and technically than decades ago. I think maybe some of you are listening to too many old school players. Listen to today's players. Today's tubists are just as good, if not better, than todays string players. The three fundamental things that make a great musician are...
1.Consistent, rich and flexible sound,
2.Being able to play rhythms with steady and accurate pulse,
3.Consistent, but flexible intonation.
When you add good musical interpretation, and play what is on the page to all of this you will be a world-class musician, regardless of instrument. The orchestral tubists of today have All of that.
