The North Shore of Chicago is not cheap. Going inland a few miles does lower the price but public transportation stinks. I remember another vet stayed at Great Lakes. While it is maybe 20+ miles from Evanston, there is a train that goes to both Evanston and Ravinia. Also, check into dorms at Northwestern, a lot of students at the Jacobs classes stayed there.
