We did a 4th of July concert before the fireworks last night. It's very hot and humid in Evansville, Indiana this time of year... still 95 or more even at 7pm. In the audience was the director of the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra, Alfred Savia. Close to the end of the program, he was introduced to The Band.. approached the podium.. and preceded to direct Sousa's 'Stars & Stripes Forever'... unrehearsed and unplanned! This was a great thrill for a three-year-old strictly amatuer community band.
