From what I understand, the PRESIDENTS OWN is designated as THE MARINE BAND, and it's members are also givin this designation. They are not marines, they are special designate marine band. There might be current marine band members that went thru boot camp, as that change did not happen until the late eighties, I think. Maybe some members of the USMBPO that read the list can shed light on what they actually are. One thing thats for sure, they look like marines(maybe smell like marines) and certainly represent the marine corps in fine fashion. Don't be to uptight that they didnt all go thru hell as you did. Comparing combat ready pilots to white house cocktail hour musicians is rather ridiculous. The marine band stays far away from combat, and really dont need the basic training. Pilots cant say the same. They do what they do well, and if you cant respect them because you went to paris island and they didnt, thats your choice. they are still your premier band.
