Your message title suggests that the instrument is playing "stuffy" - a term that I dearly hate, and is a pet peeve of mine, but that's another story. If the sound is airy or leaky, it is almost as likely to be leaking rotors as a leaking slide. If there seems to be inordinate resistance and little resonance, then maybe the rotors are out of alignment. Maybe the instrument needs a complete restoration. I'd recommend having a repairman check it out carefully.
