We compete every year, but it doesn't detract from our real mission of providing quality concerts year 'round. It does provide some good motivation to practice (our motto for this last year was, "I practice so I won't Suck".) And it exposes my players to some music that they may never hear or play (The type of music written for contest is fodder for another thread...) We play in churches and in park concerts in the summer. If treated properly, it bacomes a wonderful musical vehicle.
