If it weren't for the struggling little brass band in Tucson, I wouldn't play tuba at all. On the persistent begging of the conductor, I bought a small Eb last Xmas and started showing up. The high Eb part is lots of fun and is often missing in BBands because most guys want to play contrabass....but where else can you find four tuba parts in such a small group? Yes, it is primarily an amateur forum, but it will still help to keep music alive in this country.
