A while ago I wanted to experiment with synthetic bumpers, so I looked around and could not find a retail source for rubber or synthetic cord. Did find a wholesaler and went to visit to ask where I might purchase some. Found out that there is a fairly wide continuum of (hardness? / density?) in the cords. When it turned out I was only looking for a foot or less of cord, the guy gave me a foot each of three different cords. I remember trying them each and settling on one, but it's been a couple of years ago and I don't remember the specifics. Anyway, if you are not satisfied with vacuum cleaner belts, check yellow pages for a distributor of rubber sheeting and cord type products.
