Personally, I'm a big fan of the Conn 54J. Get it with silver laquer and it's easy to play but has a monstrous sound. All the new Conns run for just about 6 grand. I've tried the 52s and 56s too-- they're good, but the 54J is by far the best of the three.
There are a lot of other great horns out there for less than 6 grand too, just make sure it's right for YOU before you buy it.
