The whole idea with Notepad is, that it can read Finale files, can display all graphic features on-screen, and can print the files as faithfully true, as can Finale itself. Whereas the editing capabilities of Notepad are very limited.

Notepad can also give you a MIDI playback. However Notepad does not allow you to adjust instrument allocations to your specific soundcart/external MIDI unit.

These capabilities of reading graphics and MIDI were a long time wish from Finale users, that wanted to send files to users of their arrangements/compositions, so that range and layout for use in specific ensembles could be discussed. And that without the file-users having to cough up the considerable price for the full version of Finale.

I myself have worked that way together with especially one contributor to this board. The end results were among others a performance (in C) of the Helicon Schottische for Tuba and a large flute choir. There also are a few arrangements for flute choir with euph and tuba of Christmas related music.
