If/when you do get Finale, I have two suggestions:
1. Do the tutorials until you can do them from memory
2. Print out the entire manual and read it, making marks in places that you think you might need, before you start to use the program.
The most frustrating thing about Finale is that you have to know what label they give something before you can look it up. Excel is the same way....a friend just spent two entire days trying to figure out how to put a new menu bar in a program he was writing, because Excel called it a "command bar." Since he didn't know what it was called, he could not look it up.
Also, if you are not doing complicated engraving, maybe just a horn part or two....do try Notepad first, because it may be all you need, and it is free.
