I play BBb tubas exclusively. I found recently when I was trying a BBb and a CC tuba side by side that I thought the CC tuba really sounded strange. I must be closer to having absolute pitch than I thought, because I think I was equating BBb pitches with the fingerings on the CC tuba. I must have been unconsciously thinking the CC pitches were way too sharp and automatically trying to lip the pitch down. Others may have had the same experience. I would be interested in hearing from them.
Incidently, I haven't had this problem when playing an Eb horn. The pitch difference must be enough that it seems like a completely different horn.
