You miss my point. It doesn't matter to me if a hundred full time ochestras try to exist in London, or anwhere else - more power to them. My point is, if the playing is suffering because the players are working an outrageous schedule of gigs and rehearsals, and becuase the overall pool of players may be diluted to at least some small degree, then don't pass yourself off as being one of the truly great orchestras, that's all. From the standpoint of the City of London, or the British government, perhaps it makes more sense to support two truly great orchestras, than five less than super ones - especially if the audiences aren't there to support them all.

Perhaps I'm mistaken on this point, but I've also been told that it's much tougher for non U.K. residents to get gigs in the Engligh orchestras, than in orchestras on the European continent, or the U.S. Please correct me if I'm wrong on that point.
