I know there are intellectual discussions about the use of the name "Cimbasso", but most people, by now, especially conductors, know it by that name.
My instruments are trombore taper. Having built a couple of prototypes I've brought the bore size down to improve the "impedence", and in conjunction with a short leadpipe, give the instrument a more balanced response that's easier on a tuba embouchure (The late Ron Pizakiavich of Wien Phil refused to play cimbasso in the Opera the day before a big Concert, because of the effect on the face some of the large cimbassi have).

The instruments I'm building at the moment have a reversable 5th valve so they can be played in F or Eb. In F with standard fingering and in Eb with an ascending 5th valve. They are both in gold brass.
