Hi from England,
I do a lot of playing alongside the clarinet in a trio with piano.
At first it was really difficult hearing if I was sharp or flat,
particularly with the extremes of the clarinet register.
To convince myself first, I kept my tuner on the music stand, it gives a geen
light when in correct pitch.
I put it just in site of the corner of my eye and glanced now and then, not
only to see if I was in tune, but to see if I was correct in thinking I was
either was flat or sharp.
Sometimes even the pianist got it wrong, and he has excellent pitch !
I can now confidently play without it and be pretty sure where I am, its
making sure that you hear the pitch of the note, not the tone of the player
or instrument.
Best wishes, Charley.
