This is a good point, but the orchestras I follow, as well the series's (Carnegie Hall) are doing just that, and it the repetition is stultifying. It's always, Tchaik 5, Dvorak New World, Brahms 1st, and the same concertos. There's a lot of conventionally written music by well known composers that would bowl people over, but it seems many conductors and concert managers can't be bothered to go beyond their own familiarity.
