Where do you suppose the government gets the money to subsidise things? From YOUR taxes. Is that what you had in mind? I agree that capitalism does not belong in some sectors....like medicine and utilities, both of which would be much better suited to the services they provide, if they were financed in a different way ( I did NOT say socialized ) than ownership by uninvolved stockholders.
Durable goods, I don't have a problem with capitalism...have at it, make as much money as you can. I do have a problem with capitalism applied to necessities such as water, electricity, gas, and medicine, which are far more efficient if structured without competition and stocks. If you want a treatise on why competition doesn't work with these....just ask. We can get one of those completely off topic threads going again.
