I've flown many times with tubas in different kinds of cases and have found airline policies to be inconsistent. It all depends on the airline, the airport, and the individual checking you in. I paid over $200 in fees to due a multi-leg round trip for a wood cased Miraphone, but paid only $80 to do the same trip with the Anvil cased Getzen.
I have yet to have a need to fly with both my Getzen and B&S F in Anvil cases, but I'd imagine the airline wouldn't like that too much.
