Getting teaching credentials as a back-up if your performance gig fails can turn around and bite you. I've seen great players who turn out to be excellent teachers (and the reverse). But I've also seen performers at-heart be really poor teachers (and very unhappy). If you're getting a back-up to make money there are better ways than teaching.
