I wouldn't even consider the third-valve D to be a fault. Lots of Europeans that I've watched use that fingering routinely, and I gather that is the standard fingering for them.

It sounds to me like you have no problem. Pull the fourth slide to tune the low C and lip the low F. If the C is sharp, the B probably is, too. You don't need the fourth valve for much else except in the basement where everything has to be lipped anyway.
