Hi Mark,

I started out with a Conn Helleberg, which worked pretty well. A couple of months ago, I tried out a bunch of mouthpieces and ended up with a Mike Finn MF3. It's a big mouthpiece. As one might expect, it opened up the low end quite well. The high end was initially more difficult, but after about two weeks it came back better than ever. My teacher commented that my high range (middle C and above) sounds better with the MF3 mouthpiece.

I did not notice that different mouthpieces affected the intonation of the MW32. They did affect sound production, of course.

I don't know why this horn doesn't get more public attention. Wherever I play, other tubists want to try it, and they always say they love it. My teacher, who uses 5/4 CC and 3/4 CC tubas for the usual applications (as well as some F tubas), wishes he could also have a MW32, but he can't justify having more tubas.

Perhaps we should just consider this horn to be our secret weapon?
