1/

- the ability to see what the conductor wants without the conductor stopping and verbalizing for minutes at a time...or dozens of times

- When there is a problem, it should be identified immediately without the conductor puzzling over what the problem indeed is. The conductor should not tip-toe around the problem. The problem should be clearly stated and - if necessary - the solution should be clearly stated.

- lack of "stock" criticisms of predictable problem places in the music. I've played under conductors who commented about musical spots that were typically problematic - after those spots were executed perfectly in the read-through. (This tells me these conductors either were not listening or could not hear.)

- A good reheasal is in a comfortable, well-lit room administered by a conductor with a pleasant, clear, and reasoned voice. This rehearsal ends on time, early, or is held over no more than fifteen (compensated) minutes. Compensation is forthcoming in a reasonably prompt manner. All else is forgivable.
