LV is right about the initial Rudy piston CC. There was a student down here, a canadian lady, who had one of the handful of these horns that was produced and I played on that one. It had a very nice sound. However, the intonation was nearly unworkable. At the time, I thought it was a bit of a "tweener" instrument, too big to be a really good quintet horn and too small to put out enough sound to really carry in a full orchestra. Combined with the problematic intonation, I didn't feel that it justified working such a horn for the sound produced, which was good but not spectacular. It didn't surprise me at all when I heard that these horns weren't going to be produced on a larger scale. It was a very pleasant surprise when Rudy came out with the recent version of their 4/4 piston horn, an instrument that plays MUCH better. I guess their R&D is effective!

My opinion for what it's worth...
