According to the Besson website, the horn ships with a Dennis Wick 1L. That's a pretty big funnel mouthpiece with a good size throat opening. It's my personal favorite toilet bowel m.p. If it was designed to play in-tune with that m.p., that might explain a lot. Has anybody tried it that way?

Also, if the first valve slide is needing to be pulled 3", isn't that just another way of saying that the first valve was made a bit too short? Maybe it was designed that way in order to help clean-up tuning (by pushing in) for some of the real low register notes (?). Just a thought.
