I always sound like "me" stylistically...but I do sound quite different on different instruments. Case in point: my 182 F has a very distinctive sound, that I like very much. I recently played an older B&S F tuba that is much larger, and it was considerably brighter than the 182, with me playing it on my own mouthpiece.
I see the same range of differences in french horns; yes, there is no doubt it is "me" playing it, but the instrument does have a characteristic sound that will come through. I just bought a new bell for my horn, because it made such a difference in the sound coming out. The bell that came with it was very light, thin, and tinny-sounding, and the new bell is more massive. It improved the sound amazingly, according to the several pairs of professional ears that were listening to the bell trial.
