That old set of Gould orchestral instruments' sonatas recordings with Torchinsky playing Hindemith very slow (and I've heard also under the insistance of G. Gould) has always been ironic to me for the following reason:

In the "20th Century Orchestra Excerpts" [sic] edited by Torchinsky, the tempo that Torchinsky marked in Hindemith's Symphonic Metamorphosis is about as fast as one might ever conceive that piece might be performed (half note = 96), yet the tempo marked in the Hindemith-manuscript orchestral parts is (quarter note = 132...TONS slower).
