I'm sure that this will sound very opinionated-- I think that the RVW Concerto for tuba is one of the two or three best wind concertos of the 20th Century. It may not be the most demanding solo in terms of technique or nuts and bolts kind of requirements -- I think that it is certainly the greatest piece of music yet written for the tuba and we tubists to perform. You may include the Strauss Horn Concerto Number 2 and the Strauss Oboe Concerto as the others I believe.
God bless John Williams and all others who have written music for us so far-- I hope that there will be even greater stuff for us in the future.
As they say--- my two cents
