Realize that with the right verbage, graphic design, and paper stock, any product can be depicted as being made by the hands of God, and just for you. Just because the TV ads say that you'll have a great sex life after buying the "!XTreme! Close-Shave Razor" doesn't mean they're true (golly, did I ever learn!) :)
DO try the product, and don't be afraid to try something that you hadn't considered before. I don't know how many tubas I tried before I bought mine (I don't have enough fingers & toes), but in the end, I have no regrets, no second-guesses, and no "What if I bought a...." thoughts -- just receipts for gas & hotel as reminders that I made a good effort.
