Simply put, if people who play LIKE the design, it is a good one! (I guess?)
It is my personal belief that instrument makers never really consider physics or acoustical sciences very much. I believe that intelligently-applied trial and error, duplication of old widely-approved designs, and player feedback are the main ingredients of instrument design.
