The concept of "open wrap" is really very simple, actually. All it means is that the tubing for either a valve or the entire instrument is wrapped in such a way as to create as few sharp, or tight, curves as possible. The theory goes that is you are blowing into a pipe and someone puts a 90 degree elbow in the pipe, there will be more resistance. Obviously, if you have 4 or 5 valves on an instrument and every valve's tubing has a 90 degree (or worse) bend in it, the resistance will be additive and, thus, greater. Open wrap construction is an attempt to eliminate any tight curves in tubing by making the turns in tubing much more widely. These tubes tend to look very circular rather than rectangular in shape.
