The 2145 you mention is a good start for a 4/4 CC, but I don't know if it would be the best bet for you as a solo tuba. Mirafone 186&188CC's work very well in this genre as does a good Cerveny. A good Nirscl 4/4 is also very fun to play as a 4/4 tuba. However, I would hesitate to fully recommend a 4/4 as a solo CC tuba. A good conn 3J or 2J can work out very well for a solo situation. As can a Cerveny piggy, a 'fone 184 or a Rudy 3/4. All of these are good horns not to mention VMI, Meinl Weston, B&S, Hirsbrunner, and other brands. The truth of the matter is any manufacturer can make a very good horn as can even the best make a very bad horn. There is a reason Jim Self and Bobo play Yamahas, but many of us do not care for them. Quality Control! So, the best thing you can do is to take many of the members of this BBS's advice and try the horn you feel suits you best with someone objective listening. This may not be the easiest or cheapest way to buy a tuba, but it is by far the best. Good Luck!
