Man, don't even WORRY about how much time you put in right now. No set hour will make you a success. Don't go deciding to practice 6 hours a day no matter what happens. Just practice until you are done. You will get into a rutine at school quickly, and you will be able to figure out how much time is enough. Progress is important, not hours. I've seen people practice all day long and still sound like crap when it counts. Mike Sachs practiced ONE HOUR DAILY in college and he comfortably occupies Cleveland's Principal Trumpet chair. Don't go getting scared into practicing until your lips bleed because someone told you you should play 12 hours. If you are seriously concerned about this, ask your new teacher. You're paying thousands for his/her opinion.02
