That's interesting. My experience is with a high-pitched Conn tenor horn (baritone) and a high-pitched King Eb recording tuba. The Conn was tuned to about A445 (I'm not sure about the tuba). On both instruments, it was possible to pull out the valve tuning slides (almost all the way out of the horn) to approximate good intonation for some (even serveral) pitches, but it was never quite right for all notes (and certainly not close enough for use with standard pitch instruments). I wonder what the actual tuning standards are for the HP and LP instruments that are mentioned above. Perhaps HP and LP weren't that far apart at the time those instruments were manufactured. I have seen many old trumpets with a rotary valve to change from Bb to A and separate sets of tuning slides. Will the Conn monster actually play in tune at A440? Whatever works...
