My son started at 10 on a trombone, and made the switch to tuba at the end of sixth grade, at 12, with no problems. He's now 14. One advantage of the tuba is that he only had to carry his mouthpiece to and from school!
Our current task is to keep him challenged....school music can be rather dull. We're on the northwest suburban of Chicago.... any suggestions?
Open too to suggestions of reasonably priced teachers who can spark his tuba imagination.
We're in the market for a reasonable 4 valve too.
