What you need to remember about tubas is that any manufacturer can make a good instrument at some time. You don't see too many Yugo's on the road these days because the ratio of good cars to bad from their factory was very small. But I'm sure they made some great cars that are still being driven today. When buying your tuba only one thing matters: How do you feel about the instrument? If you are true to that question, you should feel comfortable owning any tuba. By the way, the pitch tendencies of the two instruments being similar is probably a coincidence. The Caravelle's I've seen have been built and designed nothing like the current Willson thinking. But how you sound on the tuba is what counts, not some status symbol name or price tag. Trust what you hear!
