actually I was a little too flip for this serious forum,
here are some recommendations on recently available "cut" 6/4 BAT tubas

1) The "pretty-by-joe tuba" : This horn is a survivor, was in a train wreck in Dayton yet sustained no damage! I hear it's not as gorgeous as the fotos, and the scale was worse, my teacher sent it back the day after it came in, even before I had a chance to play it. Darn, I had wanted to check out the neat roller-mechanism on the 5th valve.

2) The "has a custom sweatpad" tuba : I played this one, it presents well, has a very workable sound with a lot of character.

3) A tubist in Baltimore reports a cut 4-valve BAT that is a VERY nice horn for the money, this one (I think) is the 50's-60's-early-70's Holton ... which may explain why it works well ... the extent of the rework kept the orig valve body.

I don't know about Sam's tubas.......

these three horns range btw 6-8K asking prices, I'd recommend #2 to a serious BAT-shopper who wants to save 2 grand off the cost of a 2165.
