According to the Arban-Bell tuba method book William Bell started playing in the New York Philharmonic in 1943 and it said he played with that orchestra for 13 years. From a website I have found on orchestra section histories, I don't remember the site off the top of my head, Mr. Novotny started his career with the NY Phil in 1961, so my question is who played in the Philharmonic for the years of 1956 to 1961. Was it Bell or Novotny, or was it someone else. I also remember watching a rerun of the Young People's concert with Leonard Bernstein and the New York Philharmonic that was made in late 50's and 60's and I remember seeing the tubist in a 1959 Young people's concert and it looked alot like Joe Novotny. just wondering, thanks.
